When you’re starting or growing a business, there’s an ever-expanding To-Do List to deal with. Forget everything else, just the huge list of marketing tasks is enough to make anyone run far, far away.
One of the first things I need to do this week is get a handle on all the pieces of the marketing puzzle as I get the word out there about this website.
Here are some possibilities for my Marketing To-Do List – in no particular order. It’s not nearly the complete list. I’ll spare you that – at least for now [wicked grin].
Marketing To-Do List
Blog posts – figure out a schedule, topics, categories, content workflow
Newsletter – create template, create designs, figure out content, decide on headlines
Website – write, design, and add new content pages as per content plan stages one and two
SEO – on-page and off-page to get rankings on Google and other search engines
Backlinks – to get known and to get noticed by the Googles of the world
Comments – figure out how to allow comments without getting spammed, and how to reply
Build relationships – look for like-minded people who will help get the word out
Facebook group – design header, write rules, plan content, figure out growth plan
Facebook page – design header, plan content, write about us section, create posts and images
LinkedIn group – design header, write rules, plan content, figure out growth plan
LinkedIn page – design header, plan content, write about us section, create content and images
Twitter account – design header, plan content, write posts, create images, attract followers
Pinterest – design header, plan content, write profile section, create pins
Instagram – surely I can skip it? Pleeeease?
YouTube Channel – you mean I need that many videos? And I have to speak in full sentences?
Other social media sites – set them up, get them going and try to remember to breathe and eat while tearing my hair out
Publicity – tell friends and clients offline and online about what I’m up to with the new website (note to self: try to catch some sleep sometime between 2:00 am and 4:00 am)
Press Releases – forget it. Who has the time?
Everything else – surely you jest?
You get the picture.
And the list above is isn’t nearly as detailed as it needs to be, and it doesn’t have and sub-tasks or sub-sub-tasks. Simply planning content for each one of those social media accounts is a whole project in itself, with a zillion sub-tasks to take care of.
Decisions, Decisions
Marketing can easily seem overwhelming. Not only do I need to figure out what to do, and how to do it, I need to decide what order I need to do everything in and when.
More on this in tomorrow’s post when I narrow down my options and share with you what I’ve decided to do (and why), about the Longest To-Do List in the World.
In the meantime, I’m going out for a run… far, far away.
